OVERVIEW
The College of Education was founded in August 1999, when it was the first of its kind in a comprehensive university in Taiwan. Currently, the college houses three departments: the Department of Adult and Continuing Education, the Department of Criminology, and the Department of Athletic Sports; one graduate institute: the Graduate Institute of Education; and one center: the Center for Teacher Education, and offers M.Ed. and Ph.D. programs in Educational Leadership and Management Development and online in-service master’s program in Teaching Professional Development.
Under the dean’s leadership, students and faculty of the college devote themselves to the study of education theory and practice, teaching and promotional service work with outstanding results. As of now, the college is one of the leading colleges of education in the country, and an important research center in the field of educational research in Southern Taiwan. It aims to share its accomplishments with a global audience.
VISION
Pursuit of Excellence：Cradle of educational professionals
The college is the earliest established educational college in the domestic comprehensive university. In the future, it will cooperate with the national education policy, continuously assess the social needs and educational development trends, and add relevant courses and research institutes, such as the Doctoral Program of the Graduate Institute of Elder Education, the Master Program of Judicial Psychology and Corrective Consultation Institute and the Doctoral Program in Graduate Institute of Sports and Leisure Education. These are the focus of the College's future development plan. In addition to pre-service education courses for educational professionals, the College also provides professional education for in-service people. It hopes to provide high quality education and cultivate education professionals in the country.
Grounded Locally：Foundation for educational research and development
The faculty are academic elites with Ph.D. degrees from prestigious universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, France, Japan, and Taiwan. Through the integration and cooperation of teachers with different academic backgrounds, we open up an international perspective of education and continue to publish educational research results. In addition to providing high-quality teaching and learning as the main task, the College will continue to expand the field of education research and improve research standards based on research centers and laboratories, including: (School Level) “Aging and Education Research Center” (School Level) "Crime Research Center", " Education Center for Prevention of Drug Abuse" of the Department of Criminology, "Educational Leadership and International Education Center" of the Graduate Institute of Education, and " Learning and Cognition Laboratory" of the Teacher Education Center, (School Level) "Sports Research and Development Center", and (School Level) International Leadership Institute of Education (I-LIFE), etc. The College will continue to focus on the research and development of local educational academics and the solutions to educational issues. The College recruits outstanding master and doctoral students every year. Under the guidance of excellent teachers, we will be able to cultivate outstanding research talents for Taiwan's educational academia and enhance the development of local education and academics.
Global Vision：Window for international educational interaction
In this era of internationalization, the College has been actively striving to open up opportunities for international academic exchanges and cooperation since its establishment. In addition to its stable educational exchanges with the mainland and Southeast Asia, it has also strived to continue to expand opportunities for international exchanges and cooperation with Europe, the United States and other countries. In general, the College mainly expands international educational exchanges through the following ways: (1) Publishing Chung Cheng Educational Studies: This is an international educational academic journal, which has been included in the EBSCO and ProQuest international databases. Published two issues a year, and invited scholars from Taiwan, the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries with international academic prestige to serve as editorial advisors and members; (2) to hold international academic seminars on important issues of education; (3) to establish academic exchanges and cooperation with foreign institutions and exchange of visits between teachers and students; (4) Inviting famous foreign scholars to give lectures to the college. The College will work on the existing foundation and continue to work closely with international academic institutions and research institutes to actively play the role of international exchange and cooperation.
